This course is designed for Managers, supervisors and employees based outside the UK who require a broad knowledge and understanding of health and safety principles and practices.  The qualification focuses on international standards and management systems, enabling candidates to effectively discharge workplace health and safety responsibilities in any employment sector, in all parts of the world.  The NEBOSH International General Certificate is also suitable for those embarking on a career in health and safety, providing a valuable foundation for further professional study.

The International General Certificate qualification meets the academic requirements for Technician Membership (Tech IOSH) of Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) and Associate membership (AIIRSM) of the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

No previous health and safety knowledge is required.  However it should be noted that the examination is offered, and must be answered, in English, and that the course includes a requirement to write a short report, which must also be in English.  NEBOSH recommends that candidates undertaking the NEBOSH International General Certificate should reach the equivalent of a scoring of 6.0 or higher under the International English Language Testing System (IELTS).

The syllabus is divided into three units - two taught units IGC1 and IGC2 (which contain the following elements), and a supervised international practical assessment Unit IGC3). A certificate is awarded for successful completion of each unit.
