Henderson Risk Management

Henderson Risk Management was formed in 2008 and now employs several Risk Managers with a wide base of experience in Health & Safety, Environmental Management, Fire Safety and Food Safety consultancy. We are based out of the Henderson Insurance Brokers Kirmington office, with our Risk Managers being based across the north of England, from Darlington to Manchester and Sheffield, although we have a clients across the whole of the UK.

The typical HRM client is an SME with less than 50 employees, which has no in-house H&S capability, and requires our support to comply with legislative or insurer requirements, with H&S policy, risk assessments and/or training, although we have worked successfully with several larger companies and their H&S management teams.

Karen Fryer CMIOSH EnvDip NEBOSH, Operations Manager (Manchester)

Karen Fryer

Karen joined the Risk Management division in April 2008 following 15 years with Sainsbury’s Supermarkets plc and an independent broker.

She manages the Risk Management team and has extensive experience in the following areas: General Health and Safety Risk, Food Safety including HACCP(Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points), Environmental Risk, Construction, Retail, Haulage, Bespoke Training, Fire safety, Company audits, Social Services

Karen is also a registered trainer with the CIEH and IOSH.

Mike Honey Risk Manager (Kirmington)

Mike Honey

Mike joined the Risk Management team in May 2008. A previous senior Risk Manager Mike has a wide-ranging knowledge of health and safety within many trade disciplines.

A time served apprentice with an engineering background he served 22 years in the Army and was responsible for the maintenance and repair of various vehicles and items of plant equipment. On leaving the Army he has had several health and safety roles including working as a safety manager in a steel foundry and working as a safety engineer on the East Coast Mainline infrastructure. He has more recently been heavily involved within the haulage and distribution industry and joined the team having recently left a major player in the fresh food distribution sector.

Although Mike mainly looks after transport and engineering risks he also has a wide ranging knowledge of general health and safety principles and can advise clients on the practical ways of complying with relevant legislation whilst taking into account what is considered to be “reasonably practicable.”

Mike has a BTec HNC in engineering and numerous City and Guilds qualifications relating to automotive vehicle repair.

Mike is also a registered trainer with the CIEH and has attended a manual handling trainer course.

Philip C. Bailey MSc, CMIOSH/AIEMA, Risk Manager (Tingley)

Philip Bailey

Philip joined the Risk Management team in April 2013 after eleven years with a Yorkshire based consultancy. Before this move into consultancy, Philip worked within the construction industry latterly as a field health and safety advisor after a career as a mechanical engineer. As well as construction and engineering experience, Philip has consultancy experience in retail, food production and distribution, residential care, and manufacturing. Philip also has recently developed his competency in Environmental Management and Assessment.

Philip is also an IOSH approved trainer and register to deliver CIEH training courses and is a level 3 qualified trainer (PTTLS).

Martin Harrison Grad IOSH, GIfireE, Risk Manager (Tingley)

Martin Harrison

Martin has recently joined Henderson’s risk management. Martin was previously employed for 30 years at West Yorkshire fire service as a serving fire officer.

He is a graduate member of the Institute of fire engineers, and also a graduate member of IOSH. He is currently on the last year of his BSc Hons Health, Safety & Environment.

On leaving the Fire Service he has worked with some of the largest utility and construction companies in Britain. He was Health and Safety manager involved in the gas and water utilities working on the United Utilities gas re-generation project. He has also worked with Skanska, Balfour Beatty, and Enterprise PLC.

He was GB Energy Group Health and Safety manager working on Wind renewables/solar power installations.

He also worked on contracts on Drax power station eco fuel project, and Ferrybridge power station (FEML) project with John Sisk & Sons.

Martin was then employed as a Risk Manager with Romero Insurance brokers before joining Henderson’s.

Martin has vast experience in construction projects and has NEBOSH construction qualification and a Diploma in Health and Safety.

Martin is also an IOSH and EUSR train the trainer.

Mark Dalton BSc, CMIOSH, RMaPs (now working as a Consultant for HRM)

Mark now works as a Consultant for the Risk Management team, after working for HRM since March 2012. After working for a London based health & safety consultancy in 2000, Mark worked for two independent brokers based in West Yorkshire prior to joining Henderson Risk Management, and is now self employed.

After several years in the construction and quarrying industries, Mark more recent experience with the property management sector, general manufacturing, retail and leisure.
